On Sunday June 15 we caught a boat from Porec to Venice.  We took our luggage to the hotel in Mestre, cleaned up, took a nap and then back to Venice.  We caught a Vaporetto on the GRand Canal.  the first building is San Marcuola

On the right is Ca' d'oro

Mercato Realto

San Silvestro

There were many water taxis in Venice.  A lot looked like the old wooden Centurys and Cris Crafts with mahogany decks.

Santa Maria del Giglio

One of many nice palazzos

Academia Bridge

Heavy gondola traffic in the Canal grande

The Doges Palace.  One of the premier sites of San Marco Square.  This is where Venetian government was run for hundreds of years

Johanna with the "Bridge of Sighs" in the background.  The prisoners went from the Doges Palace to the prison thru this bridge.  Sighing at one last look at the canals of Venice.

Entrance to St Marks Basilica

St Marks Basilica.  There's always things under renovation in Europe.

The Campanile in San Marcos Square.  The shorter original fell down in 1902 a thousand yrs after it was built.

The are cafes in San Marcos square where you can sit for a cover charge.  We stopped at the Gran Café just to say we did.
The cover was 6 euros/ person, J had a Bellini for 16 euros, I had 750m/l of water for 9 euros for a total of 37 euros to sit for and hour and watch the tourists wonder across the square.  Several of the cafes have orchestras and they try to out do each other with their playing.  We were here late in the afternoon and the crowds had diminished.  There were 3 cruise ships in port so they had to get back to the boat for dinner.
