The weather broke and we went for a bike ride with J's sister.  We stopped at the Boten laube castle ruins about 1/4 mile away from our house.  The castle, built around 1180 was home to Otto von Botenlaubes and his wife Beatrix who lived there from 1220 to 1242.  Story has it that Beatrix was walking on the tower and the wind blew her scarf off.  She chased it 15k up the valley and where it landed she decided to build a cloister known as "Frauenroth Kloister".  The place has undergone some restoration work and is now the site of a yearly "burgfest".  The overlook picture is taken form there.
We rode down to where J used to sled as child.   From there they showed me the pool which I didn't know about.  There are 2 other pools in town.  We dropped down into Luipold park and there was a swan family swimming in the Saale.  From there we went into town and went into a restaurant underneath the Rathaus and had a beer.
Since we got off our last trip the weather  has been cool with on and off rain.  We are thinking of taking off tomorrow on another ride and continue the Main river to Mainz and then on the Rhine probably in a southerly direction.
