Villach August 23. 2915

Today we said good bye to our wonderful hostess Carolina Banic. She took such good care of us and we would love to come back to Kranjska and stay with her. Thank you so much Carolina
We had an early start so there was not too much traffic on the trail was mostly down hill and we Tarvisio in one hour. From there over the Border back to Austria and on to Villach where
we spent the night in Hotel Post a beautiful romantic Hotel. The Building goes back to 1500 and the Emporer karl V stayed there in 1540 and also the Emporess Maria Theresia and other Aristocrats and famous people. It was a bit more than we usually pay, but once in a while it's nice to splurge.
We went out to eat at a biergarten for Dinner. Went to train station to buy tickets but was reprimanded again for not having a reservation for the bikes. In Austria you have to make a reservation for bikes 3 days in advance. I got a ticket to Salzburg after all, but the only train which had room for bikes was at 7.16 a.m.  Once in Salzburg I could buy a Bayrern Ticket that will take you any where in Bavaria on the day you buy the ticket. It only cost 40,00 for two persons and two bikes. Quite the deal. We had three changes at Munich, Nuernberg and Schweinfurt but we had elevators at all stations. My sister met  us at the station and ferried our bags up to the house. Of course it started to rain hard as soon as we got off the train.  But no complaints rain is badly needed here also.
We got on the bikes rode into town to our favorite Italian Restaurant for pizza malanzane
and spritz italiano. Then rode up the hill to the house.
We rode 800 km from start to finish of this trip in the three weeks on the trail.

  1. I'm so sad my virtual vacation is over. What a fantastic trip. I love the Julian Alps and all the quaint towns, lovely bike trails and beautiful country side. And isn't it great the way the locals preserve and celebrate their heritage!
