Tauberbischofsheim August 3rd.201
This morning we took the train to Wuerzburg from were we started the trip.
The city was packed with tourist, made our way through the throngs across "Die Alte Main Bruecke"
(old River Main Bridge) to find the bike trail "Romantische Strasse" only took one wrong turn and we were on our way. It is a pretty warm day today and we were warned about very hilly country.
We however (mainly me) did not pay much attention to it.The trail started climbing very gently mainly in the shade to the first village of Hoechberg, thereafter it climbed more steeply and to get to the village of Oberaltertheim it was sheer hell, Mac says it was 20%. We did get off eventually and pushed,I sooner than Mac. It was harder than anything we ever had to climb before, even in the Alps.
We had reached the high plateau of the Frankenhoehe, the land of the far vistas. It was beautiful up there, but a very lonely area with villages far apart and no opportunity to get food or drink. Finally we descended into the Tauber Valley and after aqua minerale, quince schorle and some brats we were ready to go the last 5 km to our Hotel in Tauberbishofsheim.Tomorrow should be an easy day along the Tauber

This the window that they sell wine. People buy a glass of wine and then walk the bridge. They must sell several thousand glasses a day |
