On Sunday the 2nd Johanna, Bobby, her sister, and I rode up to Frauenroth for the Hutbuchenfest.  There's a a big 350 year old red beech(buchen) tree that used have a crown shaped like a hat(hut in German) that the lightning later knocked off but it is still a reason for a fest.
Welcoming sign to the fest

The was about 3-400 people at the fest.  There was brats, beer, a band, and baked goods.

The red beech

Red beech trunk.  The are lots of cables holding the limbs together so it won't end up  like the Hooker oak in Chico

On the way home we stopped at the Frauenroth church.

The crypts of Graf von Botenlaube and his wife Beatrix of Courtenay inside the church.  The wife had a Kloister built on the site but it didn't last too long.  Some of the fortified walls are still standing.

My friend Randy says all we show is food and beer.  When we got back from the fest we stopped at the Rosengarten for dinner.  I had a schwarzbier

Johanna had a spritz Italiano

Johanna had a nice salad.
