Before leaving Boppard we went to see the Roman Kastel in the middle of Town.  We then found the bike trail and after a few Ks the fog lifted and gave way to another warm and sunny day.  We passed the town of Spay and the chimneys of the old silver mines on the Taunus hills came into view.  Soon we passed burg Stolzenfels, the most famous of the rhein castles.  At Braubach we passed the Phillipsburg castle.  We followed the trail to Koblenz where we got into a lot of tourists along the promenade and had trouble picking our way thru them.  We finally got to Deutsche eck, a monument at the confluence of the Mosel and the Rhein.  We turned left and headed up the Mosel.  Soon the trail wound its way thru the vineyards with the river in sight on the left.  We stopped in Winningen at an outdoor winegarden for federweiwen and zwiebelkuchen.  There were lots of bikers and car tourists as it was the start of a 3 day weekend.  We decided to call ahead for a room and found one in Kattenes.  Arrived in Kattenes early, walked around and found that it was a small town with only 2 restaurants so we ended up eating  at our gesthaus.  Across the river the castle Thurant looked down on us.   Started calling for a room for Sat. night but everything was booked.  Finally found a B and B that would take us after begging the woman.  This the first time having difficulty finding a room.
