We found rooms at the Musikalishem Wirt a double room for Mac and me and a room for three for the ladies. We had eaten there before and since this is the only restaurant in the village we had dinner there. It is hard for Americans to get used to not being served water with your meal. You actually have to order it and pay for it. When the waitress first comes she right away wants to know what you want to drink. One usually orders wine, beer or mineral water. I think mac and I had wine,The ladies said no thank you "nothing" The waitress was shocked, she kept repeating "nothing, nothing, nothing.
From than on we ordered a bottle of water, so everyone had something to drink. Other countries other customs, get over it Americans
The wine they grow in Briedel is called Briedeler Herzchen.( little heart from Briedel) The tables in the restaurant was decorated with little red hearts
On the way we passed the steepest vineyards at the mountain called Calmont . There is a Klettersteig
and we saw people hiking way up there. We rode up a steep hill to the former kloister Marienberg, from were we had great views of the vineyards and the river below.
Sept. 29th
After breakfast we left our Gasthaus in Briedel and soon rode on the trail along the river.W e stop at Zell on the Mosel, hier they grow a wine called "Zeller schwarze Katz,, we have our pictue taken in front of the fountain , we check out the Faehrhaus from the 16th century in Puenderich and stop in Enkirch to check out the turnable Pranger(This is were people would be put in if they commited bad deeds, like gossip and steeling ect) we pass Traben-Trabach, and stop at Bernkastel-Kues. It was Sunday, lots of people about already having wine and listening and dancing to a brass band. The girls went shopping and Mac and I had Federweissen on the Market Square.I did buy a pair of very fancy Birkenstocks.
On we went to reach Neumagen-Dhron our destination for the day. The village is famous for the Roman wine ship "Stella Noviomagi" and many other findings from the 2nd.to 4th century after Chr.
The village is the oldest vine producing place in Germany.
We stayed at Hotel Anker right on the biketrail, were we stayed once before. The girls find a place at a private house. We all had Dinner at the Anker Hotel.
Sept 30th2014
We left Neumagen, Found the roman Villa Urbana at Longuich, stopped there to check it out.
Dediced not to stop in Trier but saving it for our return trip Had to ride in some traffic to bypass the city .Great sunny weather and we had a beer in a little Bistro along the river. Riding on in direction Luxemburg We find a Gasthaus reasonably priced rooms at Gasthaus Dostert-Schmitt inNittel,Had Dinner and at Hotel Apel and called it a day.
Oct.1st
We leave our Gasthaus and are on our way to Luxemburg on the other side of the river. We cross the bridge and find a market in Perl-Schengen. Now we have to speak french, good thing we have Chantal. Here they are serving Federweissen also and we buy some Italien sausage, Tyrolian bread and of course Federweissen, sitting by the river in perfect sunshine and enjoying life.
At Koenigmacker we reach France and are on our way to Thionville our goal for today. There is a lot of traffic when we reach the city, the girls want to stay in a Youth hostel, Mac and I would rather be in a Hotel or B&B. So we leave the women and look for a place recommended in the bike book.
I manage enough french to ask for a room at the small Hotel Oliviere right in the center of town. The girls did not find a Youth Hostel but also found a hotel nearby.
We all meet for dinner and decide to spend two nights in Thionville so we can bike to Chantals"s hometown in Amneyville to visit her parents. The girls transfer to our hotel in the morning, since their room was only available
