Kranjska Gora to Venzone through the Val deCanale

The ride back to the Alpe Adria was very pleasant as it was all downhill.  When we reached the junction, we began our trek south and soon the Italian border.  We were now following the Taglimente River which is the color of the larimar stone (a very whitesh blue). It is an old railroad line with many tunnels, some lit and some not.  We wound our way through the Val Canale and our cameras were flashing non stop.
Val Canale is crossed by the river Fella a triputary of the Tagliamento.Val Canale seperates the Carnian Alps to the west from the Julien Alps to the east. The main valleys are
Tarvisio
Malborghetta-Valbruna
Pontebba
The Town of Tarvisio is situated in the Canal valley squeezed between the Carnian Alps and the Karawank ranges to the north and the Julien Alps to the south

We stopped in Pontebba to refuel which ended up being cafe americana for me and gelato cicolatte.  They do know how to do ice cream in Italy.

The Alpe Adria was lost under construction so we had to get on the highway.  This was doable but not that safe.  Luckily, we reached Venzone quickly after 80 km of traveling.

Our efforts were well rewarded in this ancient Italian town, devasted by an earthquake in 1976but carefully restored to perserve the culture, history and heretige

We strolled the town which is known as Lavande di Vencon.  The lavendar theme is everywhere and many shops sell every manner of lavendar goods.

Our hotel is right in the mainpart of town which is very small.  It is very grand and historical.  The dining room was elegant and our dinner divine.  Risotto con funghi, gnocchi, and tortelloni.  Dessert was torta and tiramisu.  We slept well and look forward to breakfast which is included in the price of 80 euros for the three of us.  Such a deal.
