8-25-13 Melnik to Prague

On the way out of Melnik there is about only one site to get a picture of the confluence of the Elbe and Moldau and even that isn't very good although close.  The Moldau is the river that goes thru Prague.  There's also a canal meets the Elbe here.

This is looking back at Melnik and the castle.  The terraced vineyards are visible.

While riding thru the woods we came upon the schloss Veltrusy.  It's being renovated after falling into disrepair but is still a beautiful castle.  There were extensive grounds and huge  greenhouses.

We came upon a kayak course that is channeled out of the river.  They also have a 2000 meter rowing course adjacent to the kayak course.  They were have races when we passed by.

Chateau Troja is on the outskirts of Prague and right next to the trail.  It is a 17th century baroque palace built for the Sternberk family inspired by a roman country villa.  It now houses the Prague city gallery.

We couldn't get in the front door so Johanna tried the back door.  She actually got inside to a lobby where people were seated listening to a quartet playing classical music.  There was going to be a concert later.  It had been raining on us for several hours so we tried to find our lodging which was prebooked.  It took us quite a while even the hotel had lots of signs on the trail.  We missed the most important one and were stuck.  To call the hotel the number had a + in front of it and I couldn't figure out how to get a + to come up on the phone.  But even a monkey can get it if he punches enough buttons and we got the hotel and he told us how to get there.  We had a great room and the host was terrific.  Tomorrow to Prague
