8-23-13 Krippen to Litomrice, Czech Republic

When we left Krippen we stopped at a roadside attraction.  This chap was the inventor of the pulp mill process and he lived in Krippen.  We have him to thank for the stinking pulp mills around the country

Along the trail is the hundebrunn.  Somebody made a metal sculpture of a dog and water is running thru his thing as he is lifting his leg.  On the bench back is writing saying this is how the maker felt about banks.

J crossing the Czech border.

Riding the trail along the Elbe in Czech.  Didn't look much different then the German trail as yet.

Riding into Decin there is a fairy tale castle on the hill overlooking the river and like almost every other castle it is a restaurant.

Schloss Decin built on a rock outcropping along the Elbe.  The bike trail went right underneath the rock wall

One of many WW11 bunkers still standing along the trail

Vetruse, a Restaurant and hotel built in the 1840s and still going today.  It overlooks the town of Usti.

We had been riding all day without  beer or lunch so we stopped along the trailside where a gypsy looking woman had a couple of tables and a drink bar.  Lots of music and the woman was moving to the grooving.  We had 2 beers and it cost us 1 euro, about 1/5 the German cost.  I thought she had made a mistake.  I hadn't changed any money yet so I didn't know what things were going to cost.  Everything was a lot cheaper as we had heard.

Riding into Letomerice Stephans Kathedrale dominates the skyline.  We didn't have a place to stay but had read about the Apollon Hotel in our guide book.  We got into the neighborhood and there was not a soul around to ask directions.  Finally we found a women, she spoke English, but had not heard of the hotel though she had lived there all her life.  Turns out the hotel was about 1/2k away by road.  It seems all the people were in the market square.
