We left Medlitz in the rain but it quit by the time we got to Rattlesdorf 3 miles down the trail.  There we caught the Main trail and headed for Hassfurt.  At Hassfurt we turned right and rode up to the village of Koenigsberg about 10k away.
Koenigsberg was started as a fortress by Emoeror Barbarosa which became the nucleus of the later city.  During the 30 yr. war it wad plundered and destroyed several times.  In 1700 the people started rebuilding step by step and that's why city centre looks homogenous today.
We got there on a Monday and Gasthauses in small towns close on Mon.  The place we tried first was closed but had a sign go to the other gasthaus down the hill.  We got there and it was closed also.  Another couple had reservations at the first place so they made a phone call and the owners came down and let them in and gave us the last room available.  The place had closed for a private party that had booked most of the hotel.  Luckily they also gave us dinner otherwise we would have gone hungry as there wasn't anywhere else to eat.
The town is like a fairytale with all the beautiful fachwerk houses and the narrow lanes.  After dinner we walked around the town and you could have laid down in the street and not got run over all night.  These villages are really quiet by dark.
