Tuesday July 19 Creussen to Bayreuth via the Red Main spring

On Tues. we woke up to a beautiful sunny day.  Packed and took off to Bayreuth.  On the way we went to the starting point of The Rote Main.  The bike path climbed thru fields, meadows, and woods.  We only saw 2 other people and I lost my wallet along the way.  I realized it a the turnoff to the spring so we headed back towards Creussen.  We went about 6k back and there it was laying in the middle of the path.
We climbed the 6 k back to the Rote Main spring shown in pic #4.  Not much water is coming out of the pipe for such a big river.  This was also the high point of the trail and it was mostly downhill into Bayreuth.   Pic 5 is a vista along the path.  Pic 6 is a field of wheat and poppys.  In Germany to wheat is called corn and the corn is called mais.  We got into Bayreuth and stopped at the city zentrum and had gelato each and sat in the sun and watched the people go by.  We then headed to Bindlach to stay with J's cousin Sebastian and his girlfriend.  He took us to a brewery that uses some catacombs to store their beer.  The catacombs were first used in the middle ages.  He then took us on a guided tour of the downtown area.  That's another blog
