main river bike trip cruessen to bayreuth
On Monday morning we took the train to the start of the Red Main bike trail. The first bike is us getting ready to ride to the train station. We had to change trains 3 times to get to Creussen and on the first attempt the train didn't stop long enough for us to get off and we ended up in Bayreuth. We got off and rode around for a while then decided to take a train back to Creussen. This time the conductor helped us off. Immediately a cloudburst started and we had to find refuge in a doorway. We went to a gesthaus, got a room and then went down town. Creussen is about 850 yrs old. A big part burned in 1886. It is known to pottery and the tile for tile stoves. The most famous are the apostle steins as in pic #2. Pic #3 is the hunger tower where they stuck people and didn't feed them. Pic #4 is an old mailbox that J liked. She sais you just don't see them anymore. Pic #5 is the garden of an old fortified church. There was still the walkway along the ramparts. We went back to the hotel, had good meal and hit the rack.
