This morning Mac had an appointment with the Dentist. After the surgery the swelling and throbbing had stopped. The Dentist removed the packing and said we were good to go. The good news is that the tooth can provably be saved,
We picked up our bags from the room.at Motel one (very nice inexpensive hotel 84.00 ) in Salzburg and were on the trail a little after 9.00 a.m.We arrived at our goal St. Gilgen . on Wolfgangsee early afternoon and found a room at Pension Falkensteiner.
The ride from Salzburg was on bike trails sometimes through beautiful green meadows and sometimes on a separate trail along the highway (not my favorite) ,but soon we were on trails through meadows with views of the mountains. There was only one real hill about 3K long and unfortunately no bike trail along a busy road,When we reached the pass we had a view of Wolfgangsee one of the lakes we will get to see on this trail. We had already passed Mondsee below. It was a nice downhill into St.. Gilgen.
This little village is famous for Mozart. It is here were Mozart's mother was born and his parents were married. Mozart's grand parents are buried here.
I walked down to the lake and sat in the sun and took in the view, went to the little museum in a 15 century farmhouse. St. Gilgen was famous for bobbin lace and the exhibit told of the hard work women and children had to endure to make lace. It told about the children who had to make lace out of silk. This had to be done in the damp cellars so the silk would not get dry and brake. By age 20 the children were blind. There also was an exhibit about glass blowing.
I went to the Mozart Haus for a little concert, stopped at the Youth Hostel to see if Margy and Wayne were still staying there and actually found them there. They had already made arrangement to have dinner at the Hostel. Mac and I went to Gasthaus "Wirt im Gries' It was good.I had spinach dumplings in brown butter and parmesan.
After Dinner we met Margy and Wayne in a little cafe for deserts. Mac and I had Kaiserschmarrn with Zwetschgen
This is all for today.
