Frankische Schweiz July 20th to July 26th. 2013
Left Bad Kissingen by train to Bamberg. Found the biketrail Fraenkische Schweiz and got on the way. Reached the small village of Wernsdorf with very old Gasthaus Schilling with biergarten first stop for a beer than on to the Village of Buttenheim our goal for the day. Checked into Landgasthof Schloss Buttenheim Then on to visit the Levi Strauss house and Museum. He was born there but immigrated to America in 1846. On to another biergarten were we had a good time with some English guys on a stag party trip to as many breweries, biergartens and fests.. They had hired a bus with driver to take them around. It was fun to talk to them.
Next day after a great al fresco breakfast at the Schloss we got back on the bikes to continue on to our next Stop Pottenstein via the towns of Ebermannstadt, Goesweinstein to Pottenstein.
We stopped in Eb ermannstadt for gelato and a look around and then on to Goesweinstein to visit the famous Barock Basilika, a pilgrimage church Here we lost the bike trail and after much map checking and head scratching pushed the bikes down a very steep dirt trail to the main road to ride the last 5 km to our lodging for the night Gasthaus Luisengarten in Pottenstein.
The biketrails in this area are not as good as what we are used to, mainly dirt and gravel and very steep up hills.. Next morning started out with a very steep climb via the fortified castle above town to the bike trail to Pegnitz and our next goal Velden on the river Pegnitz. This was a very beautiful trail along the river. Spend the night at Gasthaus Zur Traube. only 56.oo euro for both of us with breakfast. Took a walk along the river Pegnitz after dinner. Next morning on to the bigger town of Hersbruck. Lovely biketrail along the river.
In Hersbruck we decided to take the train to Forchheim to avoid the very large City of Nuernberg.
In Forchheim there happened to be Anna Fest and all the buisnesses were closed because everyone was at the fest up on the hill, so we continued on and were caught in a thunderstorm with poring rain, but found Gasthaus Kamerer right away in the very small Village Pautzfeld .Luckily they also served food and we had great roast with dumplings, kellerbier and apfelkuechle for dessert.
Next morning found our way to the main-donau kanal,passed Bamberg and connected to the Main Rir ver Biketrail . That day the trail was flat and we biked 85 km to Scheinfurt to s pend the night. It was only 26km to Bad Kissingen, but it was very hot and we had had enough for the day. Checked into Gasthaus Hotel garni
Mangold, very nice with a glass of prosecco for a welcome. Reached home the next day Friday early afternoon, laundry bike maintenance,dinner at magdalenas and getting ready for Racoczy Fest in town.
Saturday July 27th. The Fest in full swing town over run with people, food and drink and music every were, a ball in the evening. Lost Mac to Rob and Felix. First they met in town for bier than they went to another p lace for food and more bier. he had dinner at Rob's and went on to a grill party at felix friends. Don't even know when he came home, he is still sleeping it off.
Its very hot here and last night at 3.00 a.m. there was a big thunderstorm with downpour but it is already warming up again. I did spent the whole day with my sister , that was great.

Bad kissingen July 17th to 21 2013
After Cheryl and Courtney left on the 16th we spent the rest of the week in Bad Kissingen.
working on bikes, doing laundry, dinner at Magdalena's(Bobi) dinner at Peter"s a bit of hiking with Heini and Bobi and all of us having dinner at the Adler in Hausen after the hike yesterday
We left for Bamberg on the train this morning, only on change in Schweinfurt were there is no elevator and only 5 minutes to get to the next train, but we made it. Found the bike trail without trouble and only had to backtrack once. We are on our way to Fraenkische Schweiz.Its quite hilly, but no big deal after the Alps. Stopped at two biergarten for kellerbier and landed at our lodging at an old castle in Buttenheim. Buttenheim happens to be the birthplace of Levi Strauss who immigrated to the US in 1848. Checked out the Museum, very interesting.
Tomorrow on to Ebermannstadt the gateway to the Fraenkische Schweiz and also the birthplace of Michael Rode of Mount Shasta

Bad Kissingen July 15th to Muennerstadt

Munich July 12th to 14th
We left Berchtesgaden on the 12th and took the train to Munich, only one change and it was easy.
Arriving at the train station in the big city was sort of a shock after all our quiet trails and Villages and small towns. Mac and Cheryl our expert map readers got us safely on mostly bike trail through the big city traffic to our Hotel close to the Deutsches Museum. Called Felix and he arrived shortly and off we went on the bikes again following him to City Center and the Viktualien Market Biergarten were we met Chuck and TJ. for beer and brezen. Decided to meet back at Felix apartment for after dinner schnapps. said good bye to chuck and Tj It was close to 11.00 pm when we had dinner at .a little italien restaurant near Felix place. Back on the bikes around midnight to the Hotel.
Next morning met Felix in town for breakfast and a long sight seeing ride with Felix to Englishen Garten and another Biergarten,were we met Christoph, Susanne and the baby. Another friend of Felix showed up also and a good time was had by all. Around 6.00 p.m Chery, Courtney, Felix and Chris took off for the party. I guess they had a good time because they stayed out until 2.00 a.m.
Mac an I went out to Dinner.
We biked to the train station next morning for our return to Bad kissingen. Got out ticket for train at 12.28. There was a train already sitting at the platform, nobody bothered to check the board for the time and we put the bikes and everything including Mac on the train and we women decided to go out to the station to buy some food and water.When we returned the train had left with Mac, the bikes all the panniers (8 pieces) Oh my God, poor Mac. We took the next train, thank god there was another one in an hour and followed to Nuernberg. There we found Mac with all the bikes and panniers back on the bikes. Good thing he is so calm and good natured. He just shook his head The train to our next station was full, so we had to wait for another hour for the next one and one more change Our train was 10 min. late and we had to hurry to get on with all the bikes and gear, but we made it.
Spent the last day July 15th shopping in town and a bike ride with my sister and dinner.
Yesterday the girls left and we will miss them, riding will not be the same without

they were dears.
